Clinical Program Architect l Self-Theory Behavioral Healthcare Center

Dr. Zerek Mayes is a community-rooted leader, educator, and licensed clinical social worker dedicated to advancing culturally responsive behavioral health. As Clinical Program Director of Self-Theory Behavioral Healthcare Center, Dr. Mayes shapes programs and services that reflect the organization’s mission of Community-Rooted Care and Culturally Responsive Healing.

With over a decade of experience across clinical practice, organizational development, and higher education, Dr. Mayes integrates therapeutic expertise with innovative leadership. He has developed a wide range of evidence-informed, culturally attuned programs that address trauma, resilience, and community well-being. His approach centers on creating safe, inclusive spaces where individuals and families feel seen, valued, and supported on their healing journey.

In addition to his leadership role at Self-Theory, Dr. Mayes serves as a lecturer and field liaison at Boise State University and the University of Chicago, where he mentors the next generation of social workers. His passion for teaching mirrors his commitment to practice: equipping others with the skills, insight, and courage to lead change in their communities.
